Matariki Whatarau
Matariki Whatarau is a highly experienced Māori actor, musician and performer based in Ōhope and Auckland. Known for his versatility across film, television, comedy and music-driven performance. His on-screen career includes roles in feature films such as Ka Whawhai Tonu, Whina , Mahana, The Pā Boys) and The Deadlands. His television work spans major productions including Dead Ahead , Princess of Chaos, Shortland Street, My Life Is Murder, Why Does Love?, Find Me a Māori Bride, The Almighty Johnsons and Go Girls S5 . A celebrated vocalist and stage performer, Matariki is also a founding member of the Modern Māori Quartet, bringing his musicianship and comedic timing to performance both in Aotearoa and internationally. Trained at Wellington Performing Arts Centre (2005–2006, Diploma in Performing Arts) and Toi Whakaari (2007–2009, Bachelor of Performing Arts – Acting), he continues to be recognised for his strong screen presence, musical talent, and ability to move seamlessly between drama, comedy and performance-driven storytelling.
